The Indiana University Maurer School of Law Honors Augie Haydel, Esq.
The Indiana University Maurer School of Law held its annual Distinguished Service Awards Ceremony + Legal Professionalism Panel on Friday, September 13, during which the school honored Augustavia ‘Augie’ Haydel, Esq., General Counsel of L.A. Care Health Plan, the largest publicly operated plan in the country. Haydel, who graduated in 1985 from the university’s law school, was among four alumni recognized for their hard work, passion, and accomplishments that define the school’s ideals and who serve as role models for the law school.
The Distinguished Service Award was established in 1997 to recognize graduates who have distinguished themselves in service to their communities and the university beyond traditional business, professional, and civic duties. Haydel is active in a number of legal, community, and professional organizations, including the National Health Lawyers Association, the Black Women Lawyers Association, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and served as a past President (and current member) of the Maurer School of Law Alumni Board. At L.A. Care, Haydel provides and arranges for legal counsel to the health plan’s Board of Governors and to senior management.
Before joining L.A. Care, Haydel served for 10 years as counsel at WATTS Health Systems, Inc. in Los Angeles. Prior to that, she was in private practice and also served as an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn.
